"Fatty acid composition of milk from pasture-fed and grain-fed American Milking Devon Cows"
by Robert Ward, PhD, Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences, Utah State University

This is a report of the level of fatty acids in Milking Devon milk samples from several herds in 2011. John Hall of Westbrook, CT, submitted two groups of samples, the first from cows fed hay and corn silage, the second grass. Bruce Balch of Orford, NH, submitted samples of cows fed hay and grain and cows fed grass. Ray Clark of Lyndonville, VT submitted samples of milk of cows fed grass and hay. Jeremy Michaud of East Hardwick, VT submitted samples of milk of cows fed hay and grain and of cows fed hay and grass.

The decision to test Milking Devon Milk was made at the Annual Meeting in 2010, and reaffirmed at the Annual Meeting in 2011 with the decision to expand and refine the collection of milk samples. Ray Clark has organized the project.
